Is it just that I live in an unlucky spot, or do most people around here think that as soon as the sun rises it is o.k. to bang around outside their apartment or begin construction on a five story building?

As a foreigner I am sure there is little short of violence that I could do that would have any effect, but why don't other people say anything? Is it considered rude to tell the jerk to stop running power tools at 6:30 a.m. because he is older than you?

I am coming to my wits' end on this. The demolition of the building adjacent to mine two years ago literally jarred me out of bed at 7:30, but I thought that was a one-off event. Two years later I realize that most people around here have absolutely no consideration for the sleep of others. "If I am awake, then everyone else should be awake."

Endemic in this society or just "a few bad apples?"

You kow what, it all depends on where you live, I think,,
If you live in a nice suburban hood, I don't think your neighbors would tolerate that kinda S....

I hear ya tmac. I was staying at my friend's place in Suwon a while back and construction right next door as of around 6am EVERY morning. Not much we can do about this I'm afraid. Just invest in ear-plugs.

My realtor called me last night to inform me that the building adjacent to mine is coming down today! The landlady doesn't speak any English and I was very happy to get the news in advance. I need to find some ear plugs. This is twice in two years! Crap!

The construction company promised my realtor that they wouldn't start working until 8:30. That is, they would start demolishing the building until 8:30. Those crusty old bas***ds were out there in their vests with their cigs hanging out of their mouths at 6:30 a.m. yelling at the top of their lungs to each other even though they were standing right next to each other. I made a gesture of displeasure to them after getting their attention and they went away for about 30 minutes. Sadly, I couldn't get back to sleep and now am looking forward to another 4 months of this crap.

Happy Happy Joy Joy!!

Not too much you can do about it except move to another neighbourhood, I guess. Or invest in ear plugs.

The demolition went quickly, thank god. I even managed to sleep through it for the most part. I think I dreamed about riding a creaky old elevator. Weird, huh?

Anyway, they will continue cleaning the site and then excavation will commence and finally the rather loud building phase.

As if all this isn't bad enough, the neighbor kid who lives about 15 feet from my window plays the flute or recorder or something and has been practicing the SAME SONG for six hour a days for the last two weeks. He still doesn't know how to play it!!! The other night he played until 2 a.m. when I yelled for him to go to bed.

I think it's time to go back on Prozac.

LOL. Or smuggle some to the kid and put him out for a few hours. Good luck adjusting to all this noise. Smile

Well, we haven't heard anything on the subject for a few months - I hope tmacdaddy hasn't gone completely insane, or isn't languishing in a S. Korean jail somewhere for taking matters into their own hands...

The construction continues, but the kid stopped playing the recorder. I went back on Prozac and got some sleeping pills as well. Now the world is good again. No Korean jail for me (yet).
